Lightweight Fight- Cole Miller (15-4) vs. Dan Lauzon (12-2)
R1- Miller hit some good strikes in the first minute of the fight but then got caught by a big shot by Dan and was floored. Cole Miller ended up getting a submission near the end of the first round. Solid fight.
Winner: Cole Miller by Submission (Kimura/Reverse Triangle) R1 3:05
Welterweight Fight- Mike Pyle vs. Jake Ellenberger (21-5)
R1- Ellenberger got a quick take down. Ellenberger stayed on top until the 1:30 mark but Pyle didn’t let him do anything. Ellenberger got another take down quickly after they stood back up. Ellenberger ended the round with some good Ground and Pound to cement the round in his favor.
R2- Ellenberger landed a big shot and Pyle hit the mat and covered up and Ellenberger threw Ground and Pound until the ref called it off. Good win for Ellenberger, I was impressed with him in his loss to Carlos Condit and he proved he belonged in the UFC in this fight.
Winner: Jake Ellenberger by TKO (Strikes) R1 0:22
Welterweight Fight- Martin Kampmann (15-3) vs. Jacob Volkmann (9-1)
R1- Kampmann looks a little tentative after the Daley fight. Volkmann landed some good shots but Kampmann countered with a punch that briefly floored Volkmann. Kampmann has a cut above one of his eyes. Volkmann charges in again and lands some shots but Kampmann again counter punches and floors Volkmann at the half way mark of the round. Kampmann landed some good Ground and Pound at the one minute mark and then clamped on a guillotine choke and Volkmann tapped out. Good showing for Kampmann after the Daley loss.
Winner: Martin Kampmann by Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 4:03
Middleweight Fight- Mark Munoz (6-1) vs. Ryan Jensen (15-4)
R1- Jensen went for a knee and got taken down at the end of the first minute but he couldn’t hold Jensen down. Munoz got another take down at the end of the second minute of the round. Munoz landed some good Ground and Pound. Jensen rolled over on his stomach and Munoz pounded him out.
Winner: Mark Munoz by Submission (Strikes) R1 2:30
Joe Rogan and Dana White review the card of Rashad Evans/Thiago Silva. Rogan and White put over the Gilbert Yvel and Junior dos Santos match and really hype it up. Paul Daley/Dustin Hazlett is also hyped up but they didn’t mention Daley missing weight. Rogan calls Daley the best technical striker in MMA. Rogan mentions that Rashad was just given his black belt in BJJ today. Rogan interviews Rashad Evans before the show ends.

UFC 103: Preliminaries on Spike TV Re-Cap

These fights are on being brought to us on Spike TV before the UFC 103 PPV.
Middleweight Fight- Drew McFedries (8-5) vs. Tomasz Drwal (16-2)
Drwal fought at the TUF 9 Finale and got a first round Ground and Pound TKO of Mike Ciesnolevicz. McFedries fought last on UFC 98 and beat Xavier Foupa- Pokam in 37 seconds. Don’t blink this one could end quickly. Drwal has a 4” reach advantage. McFedries has to be the most exciting 8-5 fighter on the planet, which is why he’s still employed by the UFC. In his two previous fights in the UFC Drwal fought at Light Heavyweight.
R1- And there are some technical difficulties early in the first fight so we miss the first 45-50 seconds of the fight. If the fight goes this long McFedries usually comes up on the short end. McFedries had a couple of cuts on his face early into the fight. Drwal gets a take down about two minutes into the fight but McFedries got back to his feet and Drwal landed some nice knees. Both guys stood toe to toe and exchanged punches. Drwal hit a good right hand and McFedries looks to be tiring. Drwal gets McFedries down again and is landing some Ground and Pound and he mounts McFedries but there is only 10 seconds left in the round and McFedries will make it to the second round. Drwal is up 10-9 after round one. Both guys have cuts on their face.
R2- Drwal landed a nice punch right out of the gate and pushed forward and clinched McFedries and took him down. Drwal moved quickly to side control and then mounted and clamped on a choke and got the win. Nice showing by Tomasz Drwal.
Winner: Tomasz Drwal by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) R2 1:03
Welterweight Fight- Rick Story vs. Brian Foster
Story last fought at UFC 99 and lost a unanimous decision to John Hathaway (I had it scored 29-28).
R1- Both guys are just swinging for the fences in the opening minute. Just throwing wild punches. Foster hit him with a big gut punch and then hit him with a judo throw and clamped in a guillotine but Story popped his head out. Story ended up in Foster’s guard and passed his guard and then took his back. Story’s nose is busted open and he’s bleeding a lot but he’s keeping top position. Foster got back to his feet and both guys started swinging for the fences again. Good first round that went to Story due to his control of the round.
R2- They come out and go after each other again and Story gets a take down. Story grabbed an arm triangle and Foster tapped out. Nice finish by Story. Rogan says it’s the first time he’s seen a guy finished from an arm triangle while inside the guard which shows the strength of Story.
Winner: Rick Story by Submission (Arm Triangle) R2 1:09
Joe Rogan interviews Rich Franklin backstage. Franklin says he’s tired because he hasn’t taken his pre-fight nap yet. Franklin says he’s worked a little with Robbie Lawler because he has a similar style to Belfort.
Lightweight Fight- Efrain Escudero (12-0) vs. Cole Miller (15-3)
Escudero was the TUF 9 winner and this is his first fight since winning TUF. Miller has recent wins over Jorge Gurgel and Junie Browning. Miller is a Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and Efrain has a strong wrestling background. Miller has a 4” height and 2” reach advantage. Based on those stats Escudero should have a strength advantage. Joe says that Escudero struggled to make weight yesterday at the weigh-ins.
R1- Both guys being very tentative early in the fight. Escudero got a sweep of Miller on a kick but let him back up. Miller is started to get more confident and is pushing the action and landing some strikes and really looks like he has more than a 2” reach advantage. Escudero finally caught Miller and slammed him hard to the mat but Miller got back to his feet. Escudero is starting to push the action now and he just leveled Miller with a big right hand that floored him. Escudero jumped on top and hit three punches on the floor and that’s it. Really impressive finish by Escudero.
Winner: Efrain Escudero by TKO (Punches) R1 3:36
Lightweight Fight- Jim Miller vs. Steve Lopez
Jim Miller is coming off of a big decision win over Mac Danzig at UFC 100. Miller’s only losses have come to Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar, both of which I have ranked in the World Top 10 Lightweights.
R1- They open up by both throwing strikes. Miller hit a good right that briefly floored Lopez. Miller landed some good leg kicks. Miller landed a really good left and then jumped all over Lopez but Lopez grabbed the guard and survived the onslaught. Lopez got back to his feet but Miller grabbed a front guillotine choke. Lopez slipped out and Miller pounded him with some Ground and Pound and then took Lopez’s back and then Lopez got him back to full guard. Miller took that round 10-9 and is in control of the fight.
R2- Lopez hurt his shoulder in the second round and you could see the bone popped out of place and he had to verbally submit.
Winner: Jim Miller by TKO R2 0:48
Joe Rogan interviews Vitor Belfort backstage and they talk about the fight tonight. Joe tries to bait him into talking about a possible Anderson Silva fight in the future but Vitor says he’s just taking it one fight at a time right now.
Joe is now with Dana White backstage and hype up the fights tonight to close out the show.

Lightweight Fight- Cole Miller (14-3) vs. Junie Browning (3-1)
Both of these guys are TUF alums. Junie won his last fight against Dave Kaplan at the TUF 8 Finale by submission. Cole has won 3 of 4 fights in the UFC and beat Jorge Gurgel in his last fight on the Rampage/Forrest undercard. Cole has a 4” height advantage. Junie is our first Condom Depot fighter of the night! Junie has been training at Xtreme Couture.
R1- Junie took Cole’s back but couldn’t do anything as Cole escaped and landed a good right hand. Cole pulled guard and went for a guillotine and Junie quickly tapped and Cole talked some smack right onto Junie. Nice showing by Cole.
“Who’s overrated now”- Cole Miller
Post-fight interview Cole says he wants to fight the winner of Caol Uno/Spencer Fisher and dedicated the fight to the late Charles “Mask” Lewis.

Lightweight Fight- Tyson Griffin (12-2) vs. Rafael Dos Anjos (11-3)
Griffin lost a decision in his last fight to Top 10 Lightweight Sean Sherk. Dos Anjos has a 3” height and reach advantage in this fight. Griffin trains with Xtreme Couture.
R1- The stood up for the first part of the round with both guys throwing a lot of shots. Tyson stunned Dos Anjos with a shot and then took him down. Dos Anjos traps him in a leg lock and Griffin is in an awkward position with about 90 seconds left in the round and Dos Anjos gives up the hold and they stand back up. Dos Anjos hit a good knee. Good first round that was pretty even. Dos Anjos came closer to finishing the fight with the leg lock that he put on Griffin so I’ve got him up 10-9 in this round as he also closed stronger.
R2- Dos Anjos hit Griffin with a left that knocked Griffin down but he popped back up. Tyson’s leg is definitely affecting him in this fight. Despite his leg, Griffin is the aggressor in the first half of the round. Griffin went for a single leg but Dos Anjos countered with a kimura attempt and Griffin let go of the single. Griffin hit a good right hand that stunned Dos Anjos. Fairly close round that goes to Griffin. Fight is even 19-19 after two rounds on my score card.
R3- Both guys are throwing the leather pretty good at the beginning of the round. Griffin landed a good right hand at the two minute mark of the round. This fight could be decided in the last minute. Both guys are swinging for the fences. Dos Anjos got a kimura but couldn’t hold it and Tyson ended up the fight on top with some Ground and Pound. Very close fight, I’ve got Griffin taking this round as he was the aggressor and landed more shots and better shots. Griffin 29-28 on my score card but I could see a possible split decision. Good fight.

Light Heavyweight Fight- Ryan Bader (9-0) vs. Carmelo Marrero (10-2)
Bader is the winner of TUF 8 having defeated Vinny Magalhaes by knockout in the first round back in December. Marrero holds a victory over Cheick Kongo and is on a win streak.
R1- Bader got a quick take down. Bader moved nicely into an arm bar but Marrero adjusted and got out of the move and ended up in Marrero’s guard. Marrero got up but Bader took him down again. Bader is really controlling this fight and is up 10-9 after the first round.
R2- Bader got a take down after about a minute. Bader is smothering Marrero but not doing a lot of damage. The crowd is growing restless. Bader is up 20-18 after two rounds.
R3- Bader got a take down one minute into the round. Bader gets him in an arm triangle but Marrero popped out. Bader was really impressive. He transitioned nicely to two submission moves. He just needs to keep working and he’s going to be dangerous. This is a 30-27 win for Ryan Bader.
Judges score cards say: 30-27 on all cards.
Winner: Ryan Bader by Decision (Unanimous)

Condit was 5-0 in WEC fights and was the Welterweight Champion when the division was disbanded. Condit is on an 8 fight win streak. I’ve got Condit as a Top 5 Welterweight in the World Rankings. Condit is only 24 years old and fights out of Arizona Combat Sports (same camp as Jamie Varner, Ryan Bader and CB Dollaway). Kampmann got destroyed by Nate Marquardt at UFC 88 in a Middleweight fight and has since dropped down to the Welterweight division. Kampmann was undefeated in the UFC before that fight. Kampmann does hold a victory over Thales Leites, who is fighting Anderson Silva for the Middleweight Title later this month. Kampmann is training with Xtreme Couture. Condit comes out to Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name.” Condit has a 2” height and 4” reach advantage.

He’s not necessarily doing more damage but he’s controlling where the fight goes. Condit went for a heel hook but couldn’t get it. They stood up briefly but Kampmann tripped Condit up and went back on top. Condit grabbed a guillotine with 10 seconds left and Kampmann held on. Very close fight, very close round. Condit actually came closer to finishing the fight this round than Kampmann did but Kampmann controlled where the fight went. This could be very close to a split decision. I think Kampmann is going to take it. Really good fight.
Judges score cards say: 29-28 Kampmann, 29-28 Condit and 29-28 Kampmann
Tough loss for Condit as this was a really close fight. He looked like he was fighting a 5 round fight instead of a 3 round fight. Once he adjusts to the level of competition in the UFC versus WEC I think he will be fine. Good win for Kampmann even if it wasn’t a decisive win.

Kampmann pulled guard on Condit with another guillotine attempt but Condit slipped out again and then took Kampmann’s back. Condit went for a Rear Naked but lost it and Kampmann took Condit’s guard. I’ve got Condit taking this round in another close round. I’ve got it 19-19 going into the final round.
R3- Kampmann starts the round with a take down. Condit has a very active guard. Kampmann is staying on top this round. He’s not necessarily doing more damage but he’s controlling where the fight goes. Condit went for a heel hook but couldn’t get it. They stood up briefly but Kampmann tripped Condit up and went back on top. Condit grabbed a guillotine with 10 seconds left and Kampmann held on. Very close fight, very close round. Condit actually came closer to finishing the fight this round than Kampmann did but Kampmann controlled where the fight went. This could be very close to a split decision. I think Kampmann is going to take it. Really good fight.
Judges score cards say: 29-28 Kampmann, 29-28 Condit and 29-28 Kampmann
Tough loss for Condit as this was a really close fight. He looked like he was fighting a 5 round fight instead of a 3 round fight. Once he adjusts to the level of competition in the UFC versus WEC I think he will be fine. Good win for Kampmann even if it wasn’t a decisive win.

UFC 86 Unaired Fights
Jackson vs. Griffin Unaired Fights
Lightweight Fight- Justin Buchholz (8-2) vs. Corey Hill (2-0)
Hill was on the Ultimate Fighter 5 show.
R1- Hill is very tall for a lightweight- 6'4". Hill moves forward a lot in the opening stanza of this fight and he's getting in some decent shots on Buchholz. Corey catches him with some nice shots. Hill hits two nice shots and then catches Buchholz leg on a kick and throws him down and jumps on top. Buchholz back on his feet. Hill again pushes forward and gets some shots in on Buchholz. Buchholz starts to come back and then pulls guard. They exchange some good shots as they are back on their feet. Corey gets in some nice knees and Buchholz looked staggered but came back and missed a shot. Corey knocks him down at the end of the round again. Corey won the first round 10-9. Buchholz had a couple of moments but overall Corey controlled.
Urijah Faber is in Buchholz corner and is giving him advice.
R2- Hill landing some strikes early in the round. Buchholz hit him with a head kick and then a punch and now they are throwing on each other and Hill finally muscles Buchholz down. Hill gets another take down and Buchholz accepts it and pulls guard. Buchholz tried a triangle but Hill avoided it and moved to side control. Buchholz rolls out and gets Corey's back and has a choke and Corey taps out. Corey controlled this fight and Buchholz did the right thing at the right time and won the fight. Good fight and great come back by Buchholz.

Lightweight Fight- Cole Miller (13-3) vs. Jorge Gurgel (15-3)
Miller has a 4" reach advantage.
R1- Good fight so far. Miller lands some good shots about one and a half minutes into the round. Miller has a decided height advantage (but so did Corey in the last fight). Both guys are getting in about an even number of shots, very even so far. Miller gets some shots in against the cage. Miller lands some knees in the clinch. Gurgel gets a combination and Miller falls against the cage but hangs in there. Pretty good first round. Fairly even.
R2- Both guys really open up on one another at the beginning of this round. Miller gets a take down and Gurgel peppers him with elbows. Miller getting some right hands in on Gurgel. Gurgel counters with elbows. Cole Miller passes guard and has Gurgel in a small package. Gurgel switches positions and then they are back to their feet. Gurgel gets some shots in and then takes down Miller. Really close fight so far as both rounds have been very even. Rich Franklin is in Gurgel's corner.
R3- Gurgel looks excited coming out to start the third round. Gurgel landing some good combinations and lands a nice head kick and then takes Miller down. Both guys swinging away with 90 seconds left. Gurgel with a take down with a minute left. Cole Miller gets a triangle with about 30 seconds left and Gurgel taps with 15 seconds left in the fight. Great finish to a really good fight.

Heavyweight Fight- Gabriel Gonzaga (8-3) vs. Justin McCully (8-3-2)
R1- They trade leg kicks early. Gonzaga gets a big leg kick and takes down McCully. Gonzaga jumps on top and passes guard and hits McCully a couple of times. McCully rolls over and pushes Gonzaga back to half guard. Gonzaga gets full mount and hits some shots and then Gonzaga finishes him with an arm submission. Just a dominant performance by Gonzaga.
