Strikeforce on NBC 4/27 Re-Cap

In the first two weeks we’ve been introduced to 2 of Strikeforce’s biggest stars in Cung Le and Gilbert Melendez and also saw Duane Ludwig beat Tony Fryklund. I’m thinking we get Frank Shamrock this week.

Josh Thomson, Eugene Jackson and Paul Buentello will be featured tonight.

David “Tank” Abbott (9-11) vs. Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello (20-9)- 10/7/06

These guys are just throwing haymakers early and battling up against the cage. Buentello nails Abbott with a punch and knocks him out about 1 minute in.

Winner: Paul Buentello by KO R1 0:43

Eugene “The Wolf” Jackson (13-7-1) vs. Mike “Crazy Boy” Seal (9-11-1)- 6/9/06

R1- They do a profile of Jackson and have an interview with him, show highlights and have others talk about him. Eugene is 39 years old, Seal is 28. Seal came in quick with a couple of punches but Jackson defended with a guillotine and took him down. Seal landing some punches and Eugene trying to defend. Seal controlling on top and has Eugene up against the cage. They are back to their feet now and clinched. Seal is getting some good knees in and Jackson hits a couple of punches. Lots of action as they are throwing kicks and punches now- not really connecting with anything solid though. Seal nails 2 big knees at the end of the round. Seal is busted open but if I was judging I would give him the first round based on cage control and landing more shots.

R2- Both guys throwing some strikes as they exchange. Jackson lands a nice uppercut but doesn’t follow up. Jackson with another good shot as he hits a hook. Jackson seems to be slowly taking the advantage. Jackson landing some shots and Seal goes to his knees but again Jackson doesn’t press the issue and let’s Seal recover. Jackson slams him down and is in full mount. Jackson just nailing shots and the ref calls the fight. Jackson dominated round 2.

Nick “The Ghost” Gonzales (11-4) vs. Josh “The Punk” Thomson (11-2-1)- 6/22/07

Thomson connects lightly with a lighting quick kick and then takes down Gonzales. Thomson’s got his back and is going for a choke. Thomson controlling early. Thomson taps Gonzales quickly. Thomson looked awesome in this fight.

Winner: Josh Thomson by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) R1 1:42
